From Principal to Restaurateur: A Journey to Unexpected Beginnings

As a school principal, I was no stranger to challenges. Every day was filled with opportunities to problem-solve, innovate, and lead. But if you’d told me years ago that I’d start a restaurant, I would have laughed. Yet, life often takes us down paths we never imagined.

But during the remaining days of the year, our cook—who is an integral part of our operations—had very little to do. I wasn’t a chef. In fact, I’d never even cooked before. But that didn’t stop me. Once I committed to this idea, I dove headfirst into learning. After my school day ended, I’d go home, open YouTube, and absorb as much as I could about cooking techniques, recipes, and the science behind flavors. Then, alongside our cook, I began experimenting in the kitchen.


At first, it was daunting. Cooking requires a blend of creativity, precision, and resilience. Dishes didn’t always turn out the way I hoped, but every attempt taught me something new. Over time, I found myself falling in love with the process. Cooking became more than a skill—it became a passion.

What began as a solution for off-season work slowly grew into something bigger. I realized that this venture would not only keep our cook employed year-round but also allow us to share the joy of good food with others. It was both a practical decision and a deeply fulfilling one.


The transition from running a school to running a restaurant wasn’t easy, but the principles of leadership, hard work, and constant learning remained the same. And as I look back on this journey, I’m reminded of how the most unexpected decisions often lead to the most rewarding experiences.
